About The Outdoor Cooking Guide
Live-fire flavor, no guesswork.
Why This Exists
Outdoor cooking gear got expensive, and the marketing got louder. A pellet smoker can run $700. A pizza oven, $400 or more. Those are big decisions to make on hype alone, and most of what you find online is either thin spec-sheet rehashing or breathless praise for whatever pays the highest commission.
The Outdoor Cooking Guide is a free resource for anyone who wants to cook outside without the guesswork. Whether you're seasoning your first griddle or chasing a cleaner smoke ring on brisket, we break things down into clear, beginner-friendly steps: no gatekeeping, no jargon, no judgment.
What You'll Find Here
We cover the full spectrum of cooking outdoors:
- Pizza Ovens: Launching, dough temps, and getting a real leopard-spotted crust
- Smoking & BBQ: Brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and low-and-slow fundamentals
- Griddle Cooking: Seasoning, smash burgers, breakfast spreads, and flat-top care
- Grilling: Charcoal and gas technique, two-zone fires, and doneness temps
- Fire Pit Cooking: Cooking over live fire, from skewers to swing grills
- Camp Cooking: Dutch ovens, camp stoves, and meals that work away from a kitchen
Every guide is free and written so a complete beginner can follow along. We also maintain gear comparison guides and a curated tools page for the equipment that actually earns its spot.
How We Pick Gear
We're researchers, not a test lab. We don't claim to have every smoker on this site lined up in our backyard; sites that claim that are usually stretching the truth anyway. Here's what we actually do:
- Compare the specs that matter (cooking area, temperature range, hopper capacity, materials, warranty) and skip the ones that don't.
- Dig through hundreds of owner reviews per product, weighting long-term owners over week-one impressions. Reliability complaints that show up again and again tell you more than any launch-day review.
- Report the downsides. Every product page on this site lists what owners complain about, not just what they love. If a grill rusts in year two, you should know before you buy it.
The site is funded by affiliate links: when you buy something through one of our links, Amazon pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. That funding never decides what we recommend: the commission is the same whether we send you to a $300 grill or a $900 one, so we have no reason to push you up-market. The full details are in our affiliate disclosure.
